Critters

Fallow deer.
This was the first time I saw the group blended like this. I even see the big boy, with the gorgeous antlers to the left. But they are on the other side of the field and in a ditch at the forest edge. So it is impossible to get closer to them.

Another day at the same field and different direction. It is farther to the barns then what it looks like. I managed to get behind a rock unseen but then something else scared them off. This is the only shot I got.

A few beauties at the riding school. It was an overcast day, that is why there is a slight blue tone in the photo. Looks kind of nice on the horses though.

Australian White Ibis
For the moment I post some birds from Queensland on my IG account. This is one of the ugly/charming birds I love to watch.

MM Deers are back

Yes, the deer´s are back. They were scared off as there has been lots of work for drainage on the field where I mostly see them. Guess the owner thinks it was too wet for agriculture.

All the deer´s on the images are males. Everyone except for the small image on top are fallow deer. Yes,  they come in two colors. Red and black. The top images shows older bucks. the bottom seem to be young ones.

The one in the small image on top row are a Red deer buck. The tallest of them all. This is a deer I rarely see. I could see 5 of them but spread out and it was raining and I was sitting in the car, so this was the only good shot I got.

I did not see any females this week, and so far I have not seen any babies at all.

Critters on my walks

This cat never likes my attention 😄 I´m not sure of it´s gender but I like it´s color.

Not sure what species this is, but I like this color too. I might call it Rusty!

Fallow deer.
Now I know where these guys are and what time they are usually there. But sneaking up on them without being seen, is hard as they are at the far side of the field.
I was finally spotted and the herd went into the forest. Except for one. This deer was watching me for about 15 min before it left too. It seemed like it was standing guard as I could hear them communicate. It was very interesting

A visit to Kvismaren Nature Reserve

This place was always crowded with ducks. Now it is almost empty!

Snok! This snake has no venom. And it is very curious. It is my "spirit animal"

I and a friend visited Kvismaren a week ago. It was not fun! This place was crowded with birds when I first came here. But last year it was scarce and this time even less. There was more birders then birds :(  Most years at this, migration, time used to be thousands of geese, cranes and swans. Not to mention ducks. It is a sad thing to see what happens to nature and wildlife.

One part of this place, Öby kulle, is known for its snakes. Many people come here in spring to see them wake up and rest in the sun to get warmed up. There used to be two species but I only saw one of them. My favourite the Snok. This one is a swimmer and feeds mostly on fish.

On our way home we spotted a group of Fallow deer bucks. I was able to take a few shots through the car window.

This week we already had several forest fires in the south part of Sweden. That is not normal.  I am selfish and hope they will stay out of my neighborhood.

The horses was standing in first frost with a beautiful light on them. Very unusual so I had to stop.

I finally spotted a group of fallow deer. But they are so hard to catch these days. They take of as soon as they spot a person or even a car. I had to sneak through the forest to get this shot. A moment later they were gone. They probably heard the click from the camera.

At first we encountered the buck at the side of the road. Later on, not far, we saw several other at the other side of the road. Close to Yellowstone lake. The last image is a female and her young.

I have shared this place before with or without different critters.
This day I spotted this female with a young. A little earlier I had noted that it seemed to be an opening in the field of mostly Salix, to the left. So, I followed the deer into the bushes. And I found a clearing with old trees growing on stony ground. The deers was not there. I guess the stones and rocks was stopping the farmer from cultivating this part of the field.

These two look young and fresh. These might be siblings. The color can vary a lot. Probably  born last year. I remember seeing a pair of fallows colored like this then. I´ve been waiting for newborn now but have not seen any. Yet!

Two days ago I had the pleasure to see two groups of Fallow deer. One group with 7 females and one group with 8 males. The male on the image seemed to be the oldest one. With the largest antlers. The leader of the pack!
