There was a sunset

Sunset at lake Näsnaren

I saw it coming so I drove to my favorite place for sunsets in fall. A lake outside town. September and October is the best time for sunsets at this place. During this period of time the sun moves from the right side to the left over the lake.

Almost too colorful really! Bottom image is treated with a PS artistic filter.

Critters and birds this week

Birds on the beach. Canada goose, ad and juv

Three birds that might be a family. Canada goose and Greylag goose often pairs up and we have a lot of crossbreeds. The young bird seen to be a crossbreed and even have the head miss colored of vitiligo, lack of melanin I think. I´m planning a post on this topic but have to find the first image before I do.

I finally spotted some fallow deer hinds and young. I have not seen them since beginning of June. Now they are trapped between the new fence and the forest. And this is as close as I can get to them. Not sure if they will come back. Not much room for them to graze.

The cattle had to find out what I was looking at!

I felt I was watched so I turned to see. This little Snok was watching me. A  small one that seems to be well fed. Maybe it thought I would trap it´s lunch. This is a curious and not venomous species.

This is the Snoke´s lunch buffet I was photographing! Small perch.

I decided to post all my Swedish  butterfly species on my Instagram account NatureFootstep_travelsandbirds as I will probably not travel anymore.
Doing so I instantly realized how many species I have not seen in years. This one was 5 years ago. It is kind of scary.  😟

Some critters this week

This little red squirrel seemed very unsure about me.

Summer almost gone and finally there are some life in the pasture at Boda Kvarn.

I went to a place called Beckershov. It is a Castle or Mansion. Not sure what they call it. I was lucky to see one White tailed eagle high above. And a Great spotted woodpecker, male, in the tree below.

This was quite a lucky shot at Boda Kvarn. I did notice the Grey wagtails, threw up the camera and puched the button. But I thought I only got one of them in the shot. Coming home I see both are there. A bit blurred, but so what?? It was fun.

Woke up early

I woke up early this morning and went out as it was not hot. Coming out there was dew on the flowers in the lawn. So did not go far to get some flower shots for a Mosaic. Hope you like it. It is the same flower on all images. I was on my knees and pointing my camera upwards. People often have fun watching me in this position. I think one name of the flower is Mayweed - Baldersbrå

Critters this week

Eurasian teal, female or juvenile. Probably juvenile.
This is actually strange. This is the first time I have seen them breed in this lake. They have increased in numbers the past 3 years. I have not seen any young so they must have been well hidden in the reed.
When most other species decrease in numbers this one seem to thrive. If I understand this right.
😏

I noticed there was something in this shrubbery I could not see what so I took 2 shots.
It is Common snipe. And seem to be at least 10 of them. Now I have something to do, if they stay that is!

A pair of Essex skipper - Mindre tåtelsmygare

Vagrant darter - Tegelröd ängstrollslända

As the butterflies are decreasing in numbers the dragonflies to be "as usual". I see much more dragonflies then butterflies.

I guess the feathers "left the building"

American Avocet for you Eileen. Do you recognize it?
I painted it with watercolor pencils and a cotton swab 😊

Exploring a new path to hike

A female Red-backed shrike was watching me  (Törnskata)
A met a fellow hiker. We were both carefully judging the other.

On a small area at the lake I was able to get a shot of this dragonfly.
In a field of crop I noticed something green. It was as tricky to shot as it is to see it. I pointed the camera at chance and hoped for the best. It is a Great green bush-cricket. I hope you see it
(grön vårtbitare)

And lastly, the horses still don´t let me see their faces.
Instead they quickly run away and share their behinds.

It was a good but tricky hike. I walked on dirt roads, path through forest, on deer paths in crop fields and through a dense clover field. Good for the strength´s of body and mind.

Visiting Vännervass

© NF Photo 200802

This week  I payed a visit to Vännervass. To get to the lake Näsnaren I have to walk on a boardwalk through the reed. A peacock butterfly was resting on the wood. At the lake I found a family of Mute swans. There was not much birds to watch out there apart from Mute swans. Ducks and cormorants was too far out on the lake.

On my way back to the car I saw this row of cows as I stepped out of the boardwalk. I was glad I saw them before I came out in the field. I like cows but they just LOVE to taste my backpack and camera. And  I don´t want them soaked. And this row of cows reminded me of my childhood. The cows always came home to be milked this way.
