Ducks and Roe deer

Roe Deer in a garden.
I was lucky to see this family of three Roe Deers. In the top image you  can see the behind of one in the upper left corner. It is our smallest deer. A couple of years ago there were lots of them to to the annoyance of gardeners. But they too have lessened in numbers. I rarely see them nowadays.

The background of the Mosaic is the top image a bit "played around with" 😀

Mallards and a Gadwall

A low sun made the Mallard female really come to life in an image. :)
There are three Gadwall males joining this roup of Mallards. They have been here for 3 or 4 years now. They probably think they too are mallards. :) I have not yet seen any offsprings that could be theirs, yet.

Spotting the crows and ravens I was alarmed!

This is what I found. I only share the antlers.

Lost and found

Mute Swan
The Mute swan usually swim in a nearby larger lake. But this season they have been scarce and I did not know why. Mute swans rarely move. They stay put until the lake is all frozen. This day I visited a smaller lake I have not visited since early spring. And at that time it was very low in water and mostly muddy. So, I thought this lake too is drained to become farmland.
Obviously I was wrong. To my surprise there was plenty of water and Swans in the lake. This is where they have been hiding. I could see more then 200 of them. That was a PLEASURE for sure!

White tailed seaeagle
I also found the lost Seaeagles. They used to fly on the other side of town where there used to be a wetland. That wetland is almost dry now and wildlife is gone. Probably next year there are crops growing there. So I was happy to see the eagle family. I am sure there was three of them, but it might have been a family of four.

Red Squirrel
They started the forest feeder early this year. Who was the first visitor??
Welcome little one!

Visited by The Comma

I found a lone butterfly in the grass. Turned out to be a The Comma.
From what I can see about them this is probably the last one of the second generation this summer. My book says that second generation is darker then the first one. That is why I was a bit confused at first.
A bit to chilly for it I think as it stayed on my hand that long. It even checked out if there was something for it to eat on my finger. Guess it was disappointed.

This is the pond at ÖV where I normally see at least a couple of birds. This day it was totally empty. Not even a single Mallard was there or on the part on the other side of the road I am standing on. Beautiful but dead. This is also the place where I used to see deers. But they too are gone now. Probably because of the harvest and the cutting down the forests around this area.

Seems like I will have to go down Memory Lane if I want to continue to join Critters. Well, I have lots of memories. 😀 But they don´t give me any exercise.

Take care everyone and hope wildlife comes back!

Critters, real and art

A small green caterpillar searching for food.  Don´t know what species it is.

The sturdy horse looking powerful!

Kanadagoose taking off for the migration south. They are now gone.

Top: Wild horses in Yellowstone.
Bottom: Hoopoe! (HÀrfÄgel)
Today I finish off with two art images I normally post on my artblog
I took the photo of the horses in Yellowstone a couple of years ago. I have now manipulated it to fit Rains challenge this week.

The Hoopoe is a painting I painted with acrylics on A4 watercolor paper.
