Birding time is here

This will probably be one of my favorite images. First time I got a shot with the tail like this. A male.

The Horned grebe has arrived. I have seen 3 of them. Seem it is one pair and one single.
Now I hope it will rain so the water level will be good enough for them to breed. This place has dried up two years in a row 😟

And, I could not resist, I now have a flock of four of these sweeties. It is a joy to watch their feathers blowing in the wind.

As I mentioned before it is very scarse with birds nowadays. But last time I visited the forest feeder I saw nuthatch and treecreeper. Loved it

On my balcony I have some weed as decoration, I think they are quite beautiful. I think it is Rumex longifolius or Dock, in Swedish "skräppa". It turned out the bullfinch and the redpoll likes them. As I live on third floor I am not allowed to have feeders. But this is decoration, not feeding. Right?

The horses are in a Nature Reserve in Julita. I has some problem in the area. There usually are about 8-10 horses and they really seem to like human company. My problem is they come too close and wants to taste my backpack. :) And too close means no shots. :( I really liked the dark grey one but it was impossible to get a good shot.

The birds was an odd pair. The only two waders I could see and they kind off paired up.
It is a juv Dunlin and a Snipe.

Little ones are growing fast

Mallard moms new family. Little ones are growing fast. Hm, I thought it was the same family, I did only see one female and ducklings on that same spot.
It was nice seeing them as they seem to be scarce nowadays. Have not seen small ones like this in several years.

First image was taken with my phone that is why it is of lower quality. My camera was in the shop.

Northern lapwing

I was driving on a small country road when I suddenly noticed some small ones at the side. One adult tock to the air and shouted to the newly hatched ones to be careful. They did not understand much so they walked around until I got too close then they hid themselves. I would not be surprised if they were hatches the very same day. I was glad there was no traffic so I could get out of the car.
I did not get any good shots of the actual parents at this time so those images are a week older. Large feet and head for such timy creatures.

This made my day! Only ones before I have seen young lapwings and they were much older then these ones.

Critters on Öland

Critters on Öland

This is from my trip to Öland two weeks ago. This is a NP "Ölands Södra Udde" and from Eckelsudde also a birding Nature reserve. The sea is the Baltic sea. The cattle are keeping the land open and the hare does as it pleces. First time I have seen one with the ocean as background.

I am particulary proud of the last image even if it is not a good one. The Orange-tip, Aurora as we call it, butterfly is a tricky one. Every year I see the male but only once before have I seen the female. And been certain of it. So, this time I got both in one shot. Have to be happy about it! :)

I can still catch them

They arrived three days ago! And... I can still catch them. It is a challenge every year to see if I am still able to catch them. The older I get the harder it is. Still I measure my heath by it! Nothing wrong with my eyes and reactions so far. But I get tired quicker. Just wish I had a better camera.

The Gadwall is a beautiful duck even if it don´t have much colors. This pair has been here for about 10 days but is not likely to stay. The gulls are staying though.
