Fun birding this week

Swifts sailing the skies at Björkvik Church ruin
I spent 2 h of fun at the church ruin just enjoying the swifts. I went there as I figured the young birds would be on their wings now. And they was. I have never seen so many, ever. The past two years there was hardly any at the ruin. So I was surprised to see this many now. FUN!
I am heading out again today and probably can share a video next week. Fingers crossed.

Some young mallards had fun in the rapids.

That is all for today, see you next week!

  1. Hello, Monica
Love the Swifts and the Mallard photos. Are they Chimney swifts, I have seen them here go inside the church towers to nest? I hope you are safe there, are you close to the floods? Take care and stay safe! Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. I hope you have a happy day and a great weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.

    1. Chimney Swifts are North American birds, Eileen, not found in Europe.

    2. No, Eileen. I live further north. The south point of Sweden got some heavy rain and flooding. But no real disater.

  2. Hello Monica: Swifts the world over, like so many other aerial insectivores, have declined catastrophically in recent years, so it is good to see a robust local population such as this one.

  6. Monica - our swallows have fledged, and in the last two days, it has seemed that the parents have been conducting flying lessons, the way they all swoop like mad around and around the house! Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday!

  10. Oh the swifts are wonderful. We get them here in Eugene on both ends of their migration and I know where the best places to see them are. But I can never get good pictures. Maybe I will try again this fall. I'm glad they are doing well in your country! Love the playful mallard "babies."
